Tamkeen, BTECH Sign MoU to Enhance ICT Sector in Bahrain
Tamkeen and Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTECH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on discussing means to support and develop information and communications technology (ICT) firms in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The MoU comes as part of Tamkeen’s commitment to support initiatives aimed at serving private sector enterprises and fulfilling businesses’ needs in light of ICT advances in the Kingdom.
Tamkeen Chief Executive Dr Ebrahim Janahi and BTECH Board Chairman Obaidly Al Obaidly signed the MoU at Tamkeen headquarters, in the presence of executives from both organisations.
Dr Janahi expressed delight at this partnership, aimed at empowering Bahraini ICT companies, which play a key role in the development of this vital sector. He said: “We all value the importance of ICT in our daily lives, and this sector has become pivotal for development. ICT advances have created a worldwide quantum leap in communication, information exchange and business facilitation.”
Many countries in the world have provided all types of support for ICT, overcoming challenges and mobilising capabilities to motivate the society and its institutions to adopt and develop technological options.
Based on that, the Kingdom of Bahrain has sought to draw up plans to develop and expand the ICT sector to meet economic, social and education requirements, and encourage entrepreneurship and investment in these areas.
Under the MoU, Tamkeen and BTECH will work on identifying studies on initiatives, projects and programmes to boost the sector in the Kingdom, develop ICT companies and encourage their continual growth, thus, achieving sustainable development goals and enhancing Bahraini entrepreneurship regionally and internationally.
For his part, Mr Al Obaidly said the MoU would increase BTECH’s cooperation with Tamkeen on its efforts to advance the ICT sector in the Kingdom. He commended Tamkeen’s keenness on backing BTECH’s activities and events, which seek to support the private sector and meet its needs for expertise, resources and competences. Mr Al Obaidly added that this falls in line with BTECH’s strategy of supporting private sector ICT initiatives. He praised Tamkeen’s efforts in advancing Bahrain’s ICT industry and elevate its status in regional and international markets.
Mr. Al Obaidly stressed that the MoU will give a further boost to BTECH, established in 2012, to achieve its goals, which seek to support the vison of the Kingdom of Bahrain for improved economic efficiency by developing the performance of ICT companies and guiding them towards excellence.
Since its creation, BTECH, represented by all its members, has maintained its efforts to enhance the status of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Gulf and international ICT markets and develop the role of the industry to help upgrade national economic performance in this key sector.
