Since its establishment in 2006, Tamkeen has contributed actively to the empowerment of Bahrainis and the development of the national economy through a stronger private sector. Over the years, we have completed four strategy cycles, each tailored to the requirements of its time. Through these cycles we have maintained agility and adaptability to changing circumstances, while continuing our mission of enabling the private sector to grow and contribute to the national economy. The growing importance of impact, productivity as a source of growth, and dynamism is the central theme of our current, fifth strategy for 2021-2025.
Last year we saw economic recovery on a national scale in the form of renewed and better growth in many areas partly attributed to higher oil prices and forward-looking government policies. As a result, the Kingdom is on a path of development and growth that includes job creation and a new wave of entrepreneurship. Tamkeen is proud to be among the champions of this growth. We have exceeded our targets with 10K new private sector job opportunities for Bahrainis while facilitating a record number for training with 8.4K training opportunities for Bahrainis to increase participation in the labor market. We have also seen our assistance to new businesses far exceed our initial plan as we supported approximately 4.1K enterprises across different sectors and growth stages through our various support programs, with 71% of enterprises supported to train and employ national talent. Moreover, we have observed a growing interest in business growth and business model overhauls which we see as essential for our ambition of creating a strong private sector through dynamic companies.
Following 2022 performance, we are inspired and eager to do even better. Through our programs and partnerships, we will aim higher by focusing on high value jobs and specialized training in emerging skills. For enterprises, our priority is to foster the development of more sustainable companies while fostering new, innovative ideas in a rapidly changing world. We want to help the private sector think ahead and grow ever stronger in the year ahead.
Moving forward, we will continue our active role in driving the objectives of the Government Plan and the Economic Recovery Plan in collaboration with key stakeholders in the ecosystem. I look forward to creating more change, going further and aiming higher across all levels, for the ultimate goal of achieving economic prosperity for Bahrain and its people.
